Meditation for Beginners: Building a Relationship with the Unknown





There's a reason why meditation is so healing. It helps to build a relationship with the unknown, the place from which those brilliant thoughts, creative ideas, and new visions arise. Although meditation might seem like a daunting practice at the start, it doesn't have to be. Although meditation might seem difficult to do in the beginning, it isn't always that way. As you continue to commit to the practice, meditation for beginners can become more and more easy; thus, you will experience the many benefits it has to offer in your life.


In fact, like anything else, meditation is a practice that grows as you continue to keep your attention on it. Meditation for beginners is at first challenging in the same way that running feels difficult at first. At the start, especially if you haven't been running in awhile, you might feel like you're running through sand. But after 30 minutes of running, you might suddenly feel as though you're in the middle of a marathon. Suddenly you're whole body is running, flowing with the cycles of breath and a beating heart. You're body is in motion and it has momentum to it. 

The same is true with meditation. Although meditation for beginners feels difficult, you only need to get your meditation practice in motion. You can do that by setting a time to meditate, committing to meditate at that time every day, and investing effort and energy to stay on the breath during your meditation. As you continue to meditate, as you continue to practice day after day, it won't feel as difficult. It won't feel like meditation for beginners anymore; it will feel like you've got a meditation practice in place. 

Once you have a meditation practice in place, you'll notice that meditation brings you into relationship with the unknown. Each time you return to the breath and train yourself to stay present, you're building this relationship. Each time you return to your point of focus, you're bringing yourself to the NOW. You're not lost in thinking or worrying or doubting yourself, you're simply resting your attention in the present moment. And as you do this again and again, you'll be building a relationship with the source inside of you that gives birth to new ideas, new perspectives, new ways of seeing your life. 

Although meditation for beginners feels challenging, the more you do it the easier it gets. The more you practice, the more you'll feel the benefits of meditation, including a greater and more expansive relationship with the present moment. It's within the present moment that the intelligence of creativity can be accessed. Originality and authenticity can't be found when you're lost in your old patterns of thought. Instead, they can be found inside your relationship with the unknown. 

Although meditation for beginners might feel daunting, the longer you stay with it, its benefits will eventually keep your practice thriving and nourishing all aspects of your life. To learn more, click here.
